He said to them:
“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation” Mark 16:15
I am what is known as an introvert. This verse is really not one I wanted to hear God say to me. I could never understand how people can meet a stranger and hold a 30-minute conversation with them. That is amazing and terrifying to me at the same time. I once worked with a guy for five years and never learned his name. Best friend I ever had. We still never talk sometimes.
But seriously, what if we took that step out of our comfort zone? What if we spoke to that person that we would never talk to in a million years without the power of God behind us?
When we align ourselves with Christ, we become a new creature, one who is not afraid to spread the gospel. But like with anything else, it takes practice. Do it even if you are afraid. Do it while your heart is about to beat out of your chest. Do it when you feel like you could pass out or throw up at any second.
The next time you try, it will be a little easier, and by the 47th time you try it, you might be great at it. You might still have those same heart palpitations by the 102nd time, but by this point, you will have realized that God is behind you 100 percent and there is nothing in heaven or earth that can stop you from being the child of God he has called you to be. Bottom line: go all in for God, not “some in.”
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for helping me to realize that you did not give us the spirit of fear, but of power. Please help me to realize the new creation you have made me to be and to go forth with that power at my disposal. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Go Deeper — Is there someone you are in contact with but never really talk with? Will you pray for God to open a door to start a conversation?
Prescott Williamson is a Bible-believing Christian. He is a husband, a father, and someone who believes that there is a little humor to be found in whatever situation God sends your way. He was born in the small islands of the Bahamas but now lives in the Suburbs of Fort Worth Texas, which is basically the same thing. He enjoys TV, reading, blogging and serving in his church (especially on the days they serve donuts). You can see what I have been thinking about lately on my blog www.prescottascoolbreeze.com.
Excellent because I am also an introvert. Stepping out of my comfort zone is terrifying. Yeeks. I didn’t realize back in 2012 that writing a Christian romantic/suspense would impact me not until it was completed. It was about an angry woman, barely able to believe, then to acceptance. God used my pen to speak. I used a critique site that went anywhere and everywhere. I had a lot of Gospel verses in there. Not one Christian opted to read it, but many agnostics and atheists. Around the world. Again I had no realization that God would use my words, my rewritten words over and over for years for His glory. Then, social media hit. I found Christian groups. Then I found non-believers. Then I witnessed. I stick with those who hate God. Because God has not abandoned us, why should I abandon them? Even when they are toxic. I will call them out (gently) on the misunderstanding of Scripture, both old and new testaments. Each word, penned by the inspiration of God. This is me, stepping way out. When I receive calls I share– sometimes just a few words– and some say amen while others say… okay. But at this point, this is where God has me, and my prayer is that someday I can find courage to speak. I joined Toastmasters to learn how to speak for my books. Then political stuff (all in the wrong order of course) but because it is weekly, I will through God’s help, be able to share the Gospel. Amen, I totally understand the 2nd, 10th, 50th, 100th time.
Good for you. Way to step out there. It’s not as easy as some people think. In fact it’s incredibly hard. Good thing we have God to back us up. Thanks for reading
