How do you embrace uncertainties?
Life is unpredictable.
Thus, it is filled with so much uncertainty. We can only predict the future at a certain point and after that, we just don’t know what the future holds.
For this reason, it is so easy to become doubtful and fearful. We, as humans, crave control. If we are not sure what lies ahead, we lose control and when that happens, we do all sorts of stupid things. Things that could lead to our own destruction.
Perhaps, you are currently starting a business. Maybe, you just finished college. Or you might be starting out your own family.
Whatever situation you might be in, there are things you just don’t know that could or could not happen.
Thankfully, you don’t have to live in fear. You don’t have to worry about the uncertainties of life.
In this post, let me share with you the 3 steps in embracing uncertainties.
1. Recognize and accept life’s uncertainties
The first thing you need to do is recognize that uncertainties are a normal part of life. Thus, it is okay not to know the future.
Once you recognize the fact that there are uncertainties in life, you need to accept it. Accepting this reality means you stop beating up yourself for not knowing everything. Accepting means that you stop worrying and stressing about what might or might not happen.
If you don’t know when the world market crash, then so be it. If you don’t know whether your spouse will still love you 10 to 15 years from now, then so be it. If you don’t know whether World War III would come sooner or later, then so be it.
Don’t get too hung up on things you can’t control. Uncertainties in life are there to make things more interesting for us. In fact, it is in uncertainties that we find new opportunities to grow and develop ourselves!
2. Prepare for life’s uncertainties
Now that you recognized and accepted life uncertainties, you now have to prepare for it.
But how can you prepare if you don’t know what to prepare for?
You start with the things that you know.
Everyone knows that you don’t live forever, that at some point you will get sick and die. You prepare for that. You save up for the rainy days and get life insurance.
Everyone knows that you can’t become successful if you don’t have enough education for your chosen field. You prepare for that by studying. Enroll in a class and be a master of your own craft.
Everyone knows that you will eventually lose the people you love if you don’t invest in those relationships. You prepare for that by ensuring you spend quality time with them. You make it a point to talk to them and be with them.
To prepare for life’s uncertainties means to start doing something about the things that you know. Develop the necessary life skills to help you navigate through life.
