The Role Of A Christian Man In Our Culture Today
The role of a Christian man in today’s society may be marred by the more secular points of view that the world has adopted. It is not about being a mindless macho man, knocking heads and taking names. It is not about being the most impressive womanizer in the group. Nor does it have anything to do with making the most and living the most outrageously lavish lifestyle.
As Christian men, whether young or old, the purpose is a lot more focused on glorifying God and His divine institutions including the church and the family unit. Fortunately for us, the Bible is the perfect manual offering guidance on the most important roles for Christian men in our culture today. Let’s take a look at some of these.
1. To live righteously and seek God’s favor
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you” – Matthew 6:33
As a Christian man in today’s society, there is nothing wrong with being ambitious. In fact, it is pretty much expected of you in your service to God and your utilization of His talents. However, nothing should ever distract you from the main goal which is to seek God’s heart. Everything else will always fall into place according to God’s will.
2. To lead the church
The Great Commission- Matthew 28:16-20
This does not necessarily mean that every single man should start a church or sign up for the official clergy ministry. However, if that is your calling then by all means go for it.

What it means is that it is the prerogative of Christian men, and all believers in general to spread the good news of the gospel of Christ to the world. It could be anything from serving officially in the church to subtle efforts like leading by example.
3. To lead the family
“He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive” – 1 Timothy 3:4
Another crucial role for Christian men according to the Bible is being the head of the home. In this day and age, this may be misunderstood as oppressive. However, pure, Godly love will lead men to serve as the heads of homes as God intended which means women are equally loved and respected.
4. To provide
“But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”- 1 Timothy 5:8
Another commonly and tragically misunderstood role of Christian men in society is providing for their families. The focus here is on taking responsibility for homes that they helped to create. So no, God is not a fan of intentionally deadbeat dads.
5. To love deeply and unconditionally
“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” – Matthew 22:39
This truly is the greatest command of them all and by far the most important role for men. This love should not just be directed towards close family and friends. It should be directed at all of God’s children.
Once a Christian man has this down then they have fulfilled their greatest role here on earth.
