I am an avid movie fan. I don’t have a favorite genre; I just like a good movie. It also depends on my mood. I might want a comedy one day or some drama the next. I have recently been enjoying superhero movies where the good guy wins at the end of the day and saves the (insert what needs saving here). Some movies are just plain ridiculous at this point, with so many plotholes that it is hard to watch (I’m looking at you Fast and Furious 5-9). But I still watch them. It is a great escape.

I love the Mission Impossible movies. Ethan Hunt is like a superhero, but at this point, he has survived every single mission. They need to change the title to Mission Very Possible: Probably Likely. But that doesn’t roll off the tongue come Oscar season.
As a moviegoer, I know it will happen, and yet here I am on the edge of my seat, waiting to see how he does it. This is how God is in our lives. He is undefeated. He is 99-0. Multiple championships. A dynasty that never ends. Why am I so anxious or afraid when bad things show up in my life if this is the case?
My grandmother once told me, “God is in control” my mother told me the same thing. I believe them, but I am 40 years old and still worry that I may lose my job, or someone in my family will get sick, or I cannot take care of them. I know he will be there to save the day, yet I am still on the edge of my seat, waiting to see how he will do it.
I have learned that patience isn’t waiting; it is how you wait. No one ever accused a toddler of yelling and screaming for their snack as “patient,” just because they were waiting for it. The thing is, God never fails. He may disappoint, but he never fails. He may not come when you want him, but he will be there right on time.
What is your superpower?
I always thought about if they were handing out superpowers, what would mine be. Flying, super strength, speed, reading minds, shapeshifting, and I could never decide because I like them all. I want all of them in my repertoire.
I want to be in a situation where my friends and I are being held hostage by the Russian mob, and suddenly, I start speaking fluent Russian and get out of it. And my friends are like, “Whaaaaaat, where did that come from?”
I want to pick and choose. God gives us superpowers, but we try to pick and choose. Sometimes we see the admiration and praise the worship singers get and decide that we want that, and it is our turn to become “the voice.”
But instead, God gave us the superpower of being able to relate to an out-of-control middle schooler and get them to believe in themself. But that job is demanding and thankless, so you can keep that and give me the handclaps and praise. Ask God to reveal your superpower; you might be pleasantly surprised.
My new favorite superhero movies are the Marvel Avenger series type movies. They are just filled with superheroes. One thing I don’t worry about is the boroughs of New York. There are like 13 superheroes for each one, and still, little old ladies are getting mugged regularly. But in the end, they still find a way to win. It is like that with God. Bad things, people, and places are all around us but trust me, in the end, HE WILL WIN!
So if he hasn’t won in your life yet, don’t worry, it’s not the end.
Prescott Williamson is a Bible-believing Christian. He is a husband, a father, and someone who believes that there is a little humor to be found in whatever situation God sends your way. He was born in the small islands of the Bahamas but now lives in the Suburbs of Fort Worth Texas, which is basically the same thing. He enjoys TV, reading, blogging and serving in his church (especially on the days they serve donuts). You can see what I have been thinking about lately on my blog www.prescottascoolbreeze.com.
